ギンザコマツ
Ginza Komatsu is a two-building shopping complex on Ginza's Chuo-dori, home to the Uniqlo Ginza flagship and the Dover Street Market Ginza concept store.
The two buildings, East and West, face three streets: Chuo-dori, Suzuran-dori and Nishi-gobangai. Uniqlo fills floor after floor, organized by category, and reviewers say you'll find the full range here; there's even a stand selling cut flowers. The other draw is Dover Street Market Ginza, the London-born concept store, where you'll find avant-garde labels such as Comme des Garçons. Artworks are placed around the store, and one visitor pointed out a piece by the sculptor Kohei Nawa beside an escalator with no caption at all. Rose Bakery Ginza is the third tenant. A longtime Ginza shopper remembers Komatsu as a family-run department store of carefully chosen goods; today it's a cluster of fashion shops.
Find the roof garden on the West building, where reviewers describe a small green oasis surrounded by office towers and a shrine called Miwa Jinja. The Uniqlo floors get very busy, and reviewers say fitting rooms can be crowded or hard to find, and that toilets are not easy to locate, so plan ahead on long shopping trips.
Open 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, though hours vary by shop. Ginza Komatsu is at Ginza 6-9-5, Chuo City, about 2 minutes from Exit A2 of Ginza Station (Ginza, Marunouchi and Hibiya Lines).
Visit the Uniqlo floors on a weekday morning if you can, as they get crowded. Speak quietly and bow briefly if you visit the rooftop shrine.
